Safe Candle Usage
Candles have the wonderful ability to elevate a space with warmth and ambiance. With just a bit of care and mindfulness we can ensure they continue to serve us safely. Because, after all, the best kind of ambiance is one that's both beautiful and safe.
At-Home Candle Use Best Practices
Steady Base: Always place your candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface to prevent them from tipping over.
Away from Flammables: Keep candles at least 12 inches away from anything flammable – curtains, books, paper, or any decorative items.
Never Leave Unattended: This might seem obvious, but always extinguish your candle if you’re leaving the room. It only takes seconds for a peaceful flame to become a hazard.
Shorten Wicks: Each time, before lighting, trim the wick to about ¼ inch. This helps ensure a clean, smoke-free burn and reduces the chances of high flames.
Ventilation: Ensure the room is adequately ventilated, especially if you're burning multiple candles simultaneously.
Out of Reach: If you have young children or curious pets, place your candles where they can’t reach or knock them over.
Avoid Drafts: Position candles away from fans, open windows, or areas with heavy foot traffic where they can be knocked over or blown around easily.
Extinguish Properly: Don’t blow candles out forcefully as hot wax can splatter. Use a candle snuffer or dip the wick into the melted wax using a non-flammable instrument and then straighten it.
Cool Down Time: Allow candles to cool completely before moving them. This prevents hot wax from spilling and minimizes the risk of burns.
Storage Smarts: Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve their appearance and scent.
